Heidi is originally from Germany.  She moved to Portugal in her 20's, after working for a few years in England as an "au pair".  Soon after arriving, she was recruited to play for the Portuguese National Women's Basketball team.  (Heidi is an average sized woman, a mere 6' 1½" tall.)

In 1988 she founded the company known as Tapetes de Beiriz, LDA, and built the plant in which our rugs are made.  The plant is located in Beiriz, Portugal.   Tapetes de Beiriz gave new life to a hand tied method of making classical designs for rugs, a craft that had become extinct.

She soon added a method to make hand-tufted rugs and proceeded to build the operation into a very successful company employing 68 persons, which provides the primary employment for an entire village. 

Her rugs are found in many classy joints.  Those shown below are examples of all hand knotted rugs.  Just think about the skills involved in creating masterpieces like these, with 14,400 knots per square meter!  This lady knows rugs and how to make 'em!

Richard is a software guy, an engineer, a computer scientist and a disabled Vietnam Vet.  He is slightly taller than Heidi, at 6' 7".  He has been in the computer game, both hardware and software, for more than 40 years,  and that is a long time... 

He's written about 14 tons of software for all sorts of clients, ranging from contractors, builders, city governments, medical systems, restaurant systems, and even a couple that were written for President Nixon while in the military.

Heidi and Richard teamed up some time ago, both looking forward to retirement.  Heidi transferred her company to her daughter Catia, and Richard wound down his programming business, except for this site, of course. 

So we are now in the present era...

But What To Do?

We weren't ready for shuffleboard and rocking chairs just yet!

So, we sat down and talked it over and soon decided that it had to:

And, by the way, isn't this a great way to "retire"?  It gives us flexibility to do what we want, making use of the Internet of course, no matter where we may be.  The classic Internet business model.  And to make things just perfect, we got married on November 3, 2007!  Hooya!
